Of course you are. But, you don’t know where to start.
Don’t worry. You’re not alone—customizing a 4×4 can be complicated. The key is knowing how and where to start. That’s why we’ve created this post. In it, you’ll find the first two key upgrades you need to make to turn your current 4×4 into a customized machine.
Let’s dig right in:
Start by Upgrading Your Tires
If you’re ready to get into some serious off-roading, street tires will.not.cut.it. Their soft sidewalls and mild tread patterns simply aren’t enough to cut and dig into the mud. That’s why you need a stronger, more aggressive tire.
Your tire upgrade should be based on your needs. If you want bigger tires, go for it. But know that you don’t have to buy larger tires to get results—a more aggressive design will always improve your off-road ride.
Beef up Your Shocks
Stock shocks are made for street use. The following problems can occur when they’re used in off-road conditions:
- Overheating that leads to shock malfunction
- Drastically decreased vehicle handling
The two most important features you should look for when beefing up your shocks are the size and ability to dissipate heat. Larger shocks handle much better than stock ones and shocks with an increased ability to dissipate heat ensure malfunction won’t occur.
The first—and most important—upgrades you should make to your 4×4 are new tires and shocks. Use the information in the post (and Colorado Axle N Gear’s expert advice) to begin your quest to turn your 4×4 into something super special.
