Winter is coming…

Wait, actually, summer is coming, and that means that with the increasing temperatures in the air and on the road, there are a number of things that you should do to ensure that your car continues to operate flawlessly.

While most people associate the colder winter months with car breakdowns and freezing equipment, the heat of the summer can do just as much damage, if not more.

So today, we are going to start diving into the pool headfirst and give you some essential tips to keep your car operating like a champ.

  1. Check the Coolant Levels

If your car is running on low coolant levels, this is an easy way to risk overheating the engine. Be sure to check that the coolant reservoir is filled to the ideal level.

A few notes:

Never take the radiator cap off of a hot radiator, the boiling steam will pour out and can potentially cause all sorts of nasty burns.

Also, never run straight water into the radiator, a good 50/50 mix will ensure that the raised boiling temperature of the coolant will fight off corrosion.

  1. Check up on the Cooling Fan

Your electric cooling fans should always turn on when the AC is set to MAX. If this is not the case, it could mean a number of things including a defective motor or electrical problems.

  1. Check Your AC

Nothing is worse than suffering through a hot summer road trip with a weak air conditioner that makes your car feel like the deserts of Africa. If the A/C isn’t blowing out cold air, check the refrigerant, and be sure there are no leaks before adding it.
