You got bigger tires and rims.
You’re ready to go off-roading.
But, you need to slow down.
New tires and rims call for re-gearing.
Because; if you don’t re-gear, you’ll loose off-road performance. In addition, you’ll lose both on and off-road fuel economy—definitely don’t want that.
So, what exactly is re-gearing?
Simply put, re-gearing is adjusting your gears to help your drive shaft turn faster.
What are the benefits of re-gearing?
As previously mentioned, re-gearing increases off-road performance and improves fuel economy.
How do I know what my new gear ratio should be?
It’s super easy. Here’s what you do:
(Old Gear Ratio) x (New Tire Size) / (Old Tire Size) = New Gear Ratio
After getting the new gear ratio, round the number to the next highest gear ratio. This will give you the best performance for your new tires.
What else do I need to know?tempat wisata jogja
A few things:
- Larger tires and taller gears lead to less acceleration
- Shorter gears have a lower stop speed, but more acceleration
- Shorter gears are great off-roading
- The front and rear axles of a 4×4 need to be changed
- You’ll need to change your bearings and seals
That’s really it.
Okay. I think I got it.
